Many madarsas welcome UPBME’s decision
LUCKNOW : While majority of the state madarsas welcomed UP Board of Madarsa Education’s (UPBME) recent decision of holding exams on the pattern of the UP Board and said they had no objections in following the orders as far as it was meant to enhance the quality of education, some madarsas objected to it.
They claimed that carrying out exams—that are starting from April 16 onwards—under CCTV vigil, would make the entire examination process complicated.
Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, Imam Eidgah and chairman of Darul Uloom Farangi Mahali said board’s decision would enhance the quality of education. “And we don’t have an objection to any of its decision till the quality of education is not affected,” Mahali said.
“Though the decision is welcomed, the board should also ensure that the changes should be cost effective as madarsas’ generally don’t have huge funds like other schools and colleges,” he said.
A madarsa from the state capital too welcomed the move but said it would hardly make any difference in the situation. “Board’s order is sheer wastage of time and money as it’s hardly going to bring any change in the situation. We too believe in carrying out free and fair exam and the practice is being followed since ages,” said a staff member of the madarsa.
Sayed Kafeel Ahmed Hashmi, head mufti Dargah-e-Ala Hazrat, Bareilly said it’s another attempt to target the madarsas. “Our examination process is clean and we don’t need any one to certify that,” he added.
Board’s recent order stated that Madarsa Board exams would be carried out on the pattern of any other examination or UP board. The flying squads will inspect the examination centres where madarsa students will appear in their board examinations from April 16 to August 23. Its order further states that only those examination centres would be shortlisted that have CCTV cameras. Besides, a three-member internal inspection committee has been constituted at the district level and district magistrates will form flying squads, led by district inspector of schools (DIoS), Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) and other officers who will keep strict watch at the centres. Board has finalised 648 examination centres in state, of which 54 are exclusively for female students and 54 exclusively for males.
