Rescue van and helpline for stray cattle in Varanasi soon
VARANASI: The Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) will launch an animal rescue van and helpline service to provide medical care to injured stray cattle.
It would be run with the help of non-government organisations.
The decision has been taken in view of numerous complaints being received by veterinary hospital authorities every week, said municipal commissioner Dr Nitin Bansal who held a meeting with officials of concerned departments and representatives of some NGOs in this regard.
“The aim is to give immediate medical attention to injured animal. A tender will be floated soon to seek interest from NGOs interested in handling the helpline,” Bansal said.
A proposal for the rescue van has been sent to the state government, he said adding that the van would have a veterinary expert and required equipment.
He said the van would rush to the site immediately after receiving information and provide treatment to the injured animal.
“In case, the animal was gravely injured heavily, VMC’s veterinary hospital authorities will be informed. They will ensure that the animal was brought to the hospital and given proper treatment. Besides, NGOs having experience in rescuing injured cattle will be given priority for handling the helpline and rescue van,” he said.
Bansal added that the helpline number would be issued soon.
