BDO accuses BJP worker of attack

BAREILLY: A block developmen­t officer(BDO) of Ramnagar block here has alleged that the official vehicle in which he was travelling recently was attacked.

A video of the incident, has gone viral on social media, shows a person hanging on the bonnet of the vehicle.

In his complaint, the officer has alleged that the man jumped on his bonnet to attack him and he asked his driver to speed up the vehicle in order to safe his life.

“My vehicle was surrounded by a group of men, one of whom jumped on the bonnet of my car and issued threats. The man also hurled abuses referring to my caste,” reads the complaint of Pankaj Kumar Gautam, the BDO.

On other hand, in a separate police complaint, the accused Brijpal who is a member of the local BJP unit, has accused the officer of violence and demanding bribe.

Commenting on the matter, superinten­dent of police (rural), Bareilly, Dr Satish Kumar said, “We have accepted complaints from both parties and lodged FIRs under relevant sections. Aonla police will investigat­e the matter.”

Based on the complaint lodged by the BDO, police have charged Brijpal under SC/ST Act, 332 (voluntaril­y causing hurt to deter public servant from duty ) and other sections of IPC.

As for the FIR against the BDO, police have charged the official under 307(attempt to murder) and 504(intentiona­l insult) sections of IPC along with relevant sections of Anti-Corruption Act.

Reportedly the FIRs were lodged late Wednesday night after a large number of BJP supporters gathered outside the police station, demanding swift action against the BDO.

The BDO and Brijpal could not be reached for comment.
