Defence Corridor will be a milestone: Yogi
LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath said on Monday the ₹20,000 crore proposed defence corridor in Jhansi would be a milestone in the history of the state. “Bundelkhand all set to play an important role in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India initiative and Jhansi would act as the pivot that would change the region’s landscape,” said Yogi, who announced a slew of development initiatives at a public meeting in Jhansi.
UP, he said, packed tremendous potential and there would be no dearth of job opportunities for its talented youths to showcase their talent and skills in giving shape to the second defence corridor in the country.
“We have earmarked 3,000 hectare of land, notification for which would be issued soon. The plan includes setting up an aircraft, a drone manufacturing industry and a railway factory,” he said adding that Bundelkhand and Purvanchal expressways would also act as engine of growth in this two most backward regions of UP.
Yogi said IIT Kanpur would provide technical assistance and the skill infrastructure would also be linked with the project. The Defence Industrial Production Corridor was announced during the budget of the Central Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced it for Bundelkhand region during the UP Investors meet on February 21. Yogi later held a high-level interactives session with Indian manufacturers along with Union defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman and drinking water and sanitation minister Uma Bharti to prepare the framework for the project. Sitharaman who delivered the key note address, recalled the valour and sacrifice of Rani Laxmibai, the queen of Jhansi. “Work on the Corridor has started and officials have started visiting the areas to set up societies of cluster of industries and prepare the detailed project report (DPR),” she said.
Sitharaman said a defence expo was held at Chennai recently in which 45 per cent participants were Indian .
