Vinayak stars in National Cricket Club’s thrilling win

LUCKNOW:An all-round performanc­e by Vinayak Singh helped National Cricket Club (NCC) notch up a thrilling three-wicket win against Young Challenger­s to make it to the knockout of the CAL’s C division cricket league here on Thursday.

Vinayak took two for 39 as Young Challenger­s could make 208/7 in stipulated 40 overs while batting first after winning the toss. Shiva Dhimaan (50), Rohit Bahadur (48*), and Sumoksh Dwivedi (38) were the main run getters.

Later, Vinayak smacked 31-ball 70, which contained four fours and eight sixes to help NCC romp home in 35.5 overs. Geet Sharma (32*), Vijay Chauhan (28) and Saurabh Singh (31) also made useful contributi­ons in team’s thrilling victory.

In other matches of the day, K Sports Academy beat Raj Garden Club by six wickets, whereas Lucknow Cricket Nursery beat Forencis Cricket Club by five wickets.

THRILLING VICTORY

Nagar Ayukt XI defeated Mayor XI by two wickets and won the Nagar Nigam Cricket Tournament, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Thursday. Shiva Pal scored unbeaten 71 in 67 balls with the help of seven fours as Mayor XI scored 183 in 25 overs. Anil Singh took four for 20, whereas Prem Sagar had two for 17. In reply, Nagar Ayukt XI reached home in 23.4 overs, losing eight wickets. Ankit made highest 48 in 29 balls with the help of eight fours. Chand, S Singh and Aftab shared six wickets between them.

HOCKEY TOURNEY

Karan XI and Rajat XI stormed into the final of the sub-junior category of the Welcome Summer Five-A-Side Hockey Tournament, scoring contrastin­g wins, at the CB Gupta ground here on Thursday. Karan XI defeated Sahil XI by 3-1, whereas Rajat XI beat Rahul XI 5-3.

Earlier, Lucknow Ganj beat Lucknow Tigers by 4-1, Lucknow Tigers beat Blue Eagle 4-3, and Lucknow and Ganj XI shared points after playing 3-3 draw.
