Man held for harassing woman on facebook

-

LUCKNOW: The cyber cell of the Lucknow police arrested a man from Parivartan Chowk area on Monday for harassing a woman on facebook. The accused allegedly used a fake identity to post objectionable content, including morphed photos, targeting his brother-in-law’s sister.

The arrested accused, in his 30s, has been identified as Amendra Agarwal, a resident of Tilak Nagar, Aishbagh, said police. Agarwal is employed as a clerk (account opener) at a private bank, while the victim is a private school teacher.

The police also recovered two cell phones from the culprit.

They said it was a case of a onesided love. Amendra had allegedly tried to woo the woman, but she turned down his advances. Stung, he decided to defame her, said police. “The accused started posting objectionable content about the woman on facebook under a fake identity. He also posted morphed semi-nude photographs of her on social media,” said Arun Kumar Singh, incharge, cyber cell.

The victim first approached the Lucknow police, who handed over the probe to the cyber cell.

“We wrote an e-mail to facebook and sought details about the internet protocol (IP) address of the login identity from which the objectionable content was being posted on the site,” said Singh.

“After getting details of this user’s ID, we were able to trace him. He turned out to be related to the woman,” he added.

Police said Amendra had been sent to jail under various sections of the Information Technology Act. Sujeet Kumar Dubey, inspector Bazarkhala police station, also helped the cyber cell in arresting the accused.
