National Cricket Club enter C division quarterfin­als in style

LUCKNOW: National Cricket Club marched into the quarterfin­als of the C division cricket league, scoring a 51-run win against Awadh Cricket Academy here on Tuesday. Raghvendra (50*), Vinayank Singh (49), Bilal (39) and Vijay Chauhan (265) helped NCC score 241/8 in 40 overs while batting first after winning the toss.

In reply, Abhishek Bajpai (3/29) and Vinayak Singh (2/48) bowled well to get the rivals out for 190 in 34.3 overs.

In other knockout match, Lucknow Cricket Foundation beat Paramount Club by four wickets, Multi Activity Cricket Club beat Drona Cricket Academy by three wickets, and Gulmohar Cricket Academy beat National Youngster Club by four wickets.

OPEN CHESS

The Immaculate Conception Convent Inter-School Open Chess Tournament got off to a flying start here on Tuesday. In the up to class 8th category, Tanishq Gupta defeated Akshin Srivastava, Aryaman Jain beat Suryansh Srivastava, Rachit Pandey beat Simran Sadhwani, Tejasv Singh beat Vansh Rathore, Ansh Awasthi beat Neeraj Joshi, Jayant Singh Rautela beat Harshit Gupta, Atharav Rastogi split points with Aryan Singh. At the end of the fourth round, Tanish Gupta, Rachit Pandey, Aryaman Jain, Ansh Awasthi, Tejasv Singh and Jayant Singh Rautela were in joint lead with 4 points each, whereas Atharav Rastogi and Aryan Singh were joint second with 3.5 points each.

THIPSAY SHOCKED

Young A Vamsi Krishna on Tuesday surprised Grandmaste­r Praveen Thipsay during a series of exhibition match at the Excellia School here. Another Satvik Verma too split points with him. For all 20 kids at the chess table it was a life-time experience when they found Thipsay playing against them simultaneo­usly.

HOCKEY NATIONALS

Uttar Pradesh Hockey announced its teams for the forthcomin­g Junior National Men and Women Hockey Championsh­ip, beginning at Bhopal. The men’ team included, Prashant Chauhan, Vikas Gaur, Faraz, Sharada Nand Tewari, Moin, Shahbaz, Vishal Singh, Vishnu Kant Singh, Aditya Singh, Amit Kumar Yadav, Ajay Yadav, Sourabh Anand, Gopi Kumar Sonkar, Uttam Singh, Ravins Jaiswal, Shivam Anand, Vishal Verma and Lakhan Singh.

The women’s team have Bansari Solanki, Anjali Shukla, Simran Singh, Shivani Singh, Sarita Rai, Vinamrata Yadav, Rakhi Rathore, Pallavi Kumari, Priyanka Nishad, Sumita Yadav, Hina Bano, Akansha Shukla, Sonal Tewari, Yogita Bora, Anshika Singh, Archana Bhardwaj, Sapna Devi and Mumtaz Khan.
