LUCKNOW: Three days after BJP chief Amit Shah declared his party’s intention to focus on Congress’ family pocketboroughs of Amethi and Rae Bareli, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasasd Maurya visited on Wednesday Amethi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and accused Rahul of running a vilification campaign against PM Narendra Modi.

“Rahul Gandhi is feeling the heat in Amethi. That’s why he is running a campaign to defame Modi under whose leadership India’s stock has skyrocketed in the global community,” Maurya said.

After laying foundation stone and announcing schemes worth ₹118 crore for Amethi, Maurya directed officials to ensure that the common man wasn’t put to any inconvenience.

“Those officials who fail to address the problems of the common man would face the music,” Maurya said in the presence of several ministers, including Mohsin Raza, UP’s minister in-charge of Amethi, minister Suresh Pasi, MLAs Garima Singh among others.

“The Nehru-Gandhi family has been telling lies to the people for the past six decades. Now, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guidance of BJP chief Amit Shah the Congress bastions of Rae Bareli and Amethi are set to fall,” he said.

“Rahul Gandhi could become the president of his party simply because he has inherited a particular surname. But he will never be able to become the prime minister simply because the post isn’t vacant. Its occupant is world’s most powerful leader who has put India on the growth path,” Maurya said.
