WAIT OVER, HT WOMAN AWARDS TODAY

LUCKNOW: The month-long campaign by Hindustan Times against growing cases of sexual crime against women will culminate on Sunday with the HT Woman 2018 Award ceremony here.

The crusade was peppered with some very animated and thought-provoking panel discussions with school principals and experts drawn from different fields during the period.

HT has compiled the suggestions put forth by the experts and sent by the readers, which will be handed over for action to chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who will be the chief guest at the function on Sunday.

The theme for the eighth edition of HT Woman awards is ‘life after rape’ tiltled ‘Shrieks and Silence’. As this year’s event unfolds, invitees will get to hear first-hand, heart-wrenching account of the mother of Delhi gang rape victim. Also, a young victim from Kanpur will narrate how she fought her battle and ensured justice despite all odds.

The function will also be graced by Poonam Yadav, Commonwealth Game Gold medalist and filmmaker Anubhav Sinha.

In the past, HT successfully carried out campaigns against acid attack, child sexual abuse, female feticide and women trafficking. Following HT’s campaigns, the state government of the day took a number of steps, including free medical treatment for acid attack survivors in government hospitals and constitution of special task force to combat trafficking.
