Awakening people against harassment and assault in Lucknow (Pahal), training of tribal girls, gender sensitisation training of antiRomeo squads in 75 districts of UP and safety and security workshops for college and school students are some of the initiatives that illustrate the efforts made by 2006 batch PPS officer Babita Singh for women’s welfare. Babita is presently posted as deputy superintendent of police, Women Power Line- 1090 tand is known to have gone an extra mile to work for safety and security of women.
Babita is known as the most unbiased and professional police official who worked for women’s safety rigorously in the past few years. So far she has received at least 15 appreciation letters from senior police officers. Moreover, she was also conferred with UP DGP appreciation medal in 2015 for her exemplary work in this field.
During her posting in Lucknow during 2013, Babita started the ‘Pahal’ (initiative) that holds counselling sessions for victims of sexual assault and harassment. Over 100 women and girls were counselled by Pahal in less than one year. She not only actively remained involved in counselling and rehabilitation of rape survivors and helping them cope with the trauma but also stood by them in their fight for justice. She also presides over the police committee on sexual harassment at work place .
She rigorously involved in grooming girls of Tharu tribe of Bahraich and Lakhmipur Kheri districts. Seven of them are even working as call attendants in Women Power Line-1090. She said these tribal girls, who were once not even able to interact with outsiders, were now providing relief to women in distress while attending their calls at 1090.
