Inspector Janak Singh Pundeer is known for his upright image and helping nature among people. He has helped many women in distress during his 24 years of his service in more than 35 police stations of western UP.
He recalls how he helped a married woman in Pallavpuram locality of Meerut when he was posted here ad inspector in Daurala police station three years ago.
The young girl Manpreet, a resident of Sitapur, had fallen in love with a local trader while she came to stay at her sister’s home in Pallavpuram. They got married and Manpreet came to her in laws’ house at Ganpati Enclave Colony in Pallavpuram area.
The youth’s parents were against their marriage and barely a year after the marriage, trouble began between Manpreet and her husband. Pundeer said she was thrown out of the house and for some time she stayed with her sister. Meanwhile, her parents also came here to settle the issue but the youth’s family refused to accept Manpreet .
The woman then took a bold decision and sat outside her in-laws’ house. Pundeer recalled that she sat there for two days without food but her in-laws did not let her in. Eventually, Pundeer spoke to neighbours and persuaded them to mount pressure on the in-laws. He also registered a case against them on the complaint of the girl. Legal and social pressure mounted on the family finally worked and Manpreet was allowed to stay in the house. Pundeer said that his decision to rope in neighbours to resolve the issue worked.
“The couple, however, filed papers for their separation after a year but I am happy that I could help her in getting a place in her in-laws’ house,” Pundeer said.
Janak Singh Pundeer originally belongs to Saharanpur. He joined the state police in 1984 and has served in Meerut, Bijnor, Hapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, Badaun, Pilibhit and Bulandshahr.
He had a long stint of 22 years of holding in charge ship of different police stations. He is presently serving as ‘ peshkar’ of SP Hapur.
