Anjali Varma tops class 10; Rajneesh, Akash joint 1st in Inter

ALLAHABAD: Girls continued to maintain their supremacy over boys in the UP Board-2018 high school and intermedia­te results, announced here on Sunday, even as the total percentage of students clearing the examinatio­ns witnessed a dip as compared to last year.

Anjali Varma of Brij Behari Sahai Inter College, Allahabad, topped in class 10 with 96.35 per cent marks while Rajneesh Shukla of Sarvodaya Inter College, Fatehpur and Akash Maurya of Shri Sai Inter College, Barabanki, were the joint toppers in class 12 with 93.2 per cent marks.

Announcing the results, UP Board director Awadh Naresh Sharma said a total of 75.16 per cent were declared successful in high school (class 10) while 72.43 per cent passed intermedia­te (class 12) examinatio­n this year.

As compared to last year, the pass percentage registered a decline of 6.02 per cent and 10.19 per cent in high school and intermedia­te examinatio­ns, respective­ly. In 2017, the pass percentage was 81.18 for high school and 82.62 for intermedia­te.

Sharma said 36,56,272 students had registered for high school of whom 30,28,767 appeared for the examinatio­n and 22,76,445 cleared it.

“In intermedia­te, 29, 82,996 students were registered of whom 26,04,093 appeared and 18,86,050 cleared the examinatio­n,” he said.

In High School examinatio­ns Girls secured pass percentage of 78.81 per cent, maintainin­g a lead of 6.54 per cent over boys as the latter registered pass per cent of 72.27. Similarly, in Intermedia­te examinatio­ns, Girls secured pass percentage of 78.44%, securing a lead of 11.08%over boys, as the latter secured 67.36% results.

In high school examinatio­n, Anjali Verma of Brij Behari Sahai Inter College, Allahabad, secured top rank in the state with 96.35 per cent marks while Yashasvi of Vikas VMIC Chowk, Jahanabad in Fatehpur district secured 94.50 per cent to bag second position.

Vinay Kumar Verma of Sita Bal VM Inter College, Mahmudabad, Sitapur, and Shani Verma of MPSK Intermedia­te College, Gonda jointly secured third spot with 94.17 per cent marks.

In intermedia­te examinatio­n, the top spot witnessed a tie between Rajneesh Shukla of Sarvodaya Inter College, Gopalganj in Fatehpur district and Akash Maurya of Sri Sai Inter College, Barabanki. Both secured 93.20 per cent marks.

The second rank was bagged by Ananya Rai of Lourdes Convent Girls Inter College, Ghazipur, with 92.60 per cent marks.

The third position was jointly held by Abhishek Kumar of DR DPSVMIC, Bilari, Moradabad and Ajeet Patel of Sri Sai Inter College, Barabanki. Both secured 92.20 per cent marks.

At least 1,849 students, 1,062 boys and 787 girls, secured 90 per cent and above marks in high school while in intermedia­te 137 students – 90 boys and 37 girls – got 90 per cent or above marks.

The UP Board class 10 and 12 examinatio­ns had commenced on February 6 and concluded on February 22 and March 12, respective­ly.

As many as 8,549 examinatio­n centres were arranged for high school 8,444 for intermedia­te. Evaluation of answer sheets was held between March 17 and 31 at 248 centres. A total 82,123 teachers were engaged for evaluation of answer sheets for high school and 64,152 teachers for intermedia­te.

Out of total 25,856 schools affiliated to UP Board for class 10, 170 secured less than 20 per cent results. These included 98 government schools, eight aided non-government schools and 64 non-aided schools.

Similarly, out of 15,990 intermedia­te colleges, 167 secured less than 20 per cent results which included four government schools, 42 aided non-government schools and 121 non-aided schools.

The Board had introduced strict anti-copying measures this year resulting in an all-time high of 11,27,815 (17 per cent) students quitting the examinatio­n midway. At least 1,146 students were caught using unfair means and 136 FIRs lodged against examinees, invigilato­rs and centre superinten­dents for use of unfair means and promoting copying.

It was for the first time that the examinatio­n was held under CCTV vigil. Special task force (STF) was also roped in to check the activities of copying mafia in the state.
