UP Board passes stern test with distinction
Many months of effort led to early declaration of high school, intermediate exam results
ALLAHABAD It was for the first time that the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad or UP Board declared the high school (class 10) and intermediate (class 12) results in April and the achievement was the outcome of sustained effort over many months, UP Board officials said.
The board declared its high school and intermediate exam schedule as early as October 27, 2017 and then conducted the exams for over 60.61 lakh candidates (34.04 lakh for Class 10 and 26.56 lakh for Class 12) across Uttar Pradesh between February 6 and March 11, 2018, said UP Board secretary Neena Srivastava.
Not surprisingly, the UP Board results were declared well before the results of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Council For The Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) and most state education boards.
This was no mean feat as the UP Board was one of the world’s largest examination bodies in terms of candidates.
In 2017, the board had conducted the exams from March 16 and declared the result only on June 9, 2017, Srivastava said.
This time, the board managed to complete the exams, evaluation

of answer-sheets and declaration of results 40 days before the time taken for the entire exercise in 2017, she added, giving credit for the achievement to all board officials and staff, besides the evaluators.
This year’s achievement also blunted the criticism that the board drew for its handling of exams in the past amid complaints of mass copying, paper leaks and answer-sheet bundles getting lost in transit earlier.
The board managed to conduct the exam with unprecedented strictness, cracking down hard on the copying mafia and corrupt exam centre officials.
Many were booked under the anti-copying act and over 11 lakh candidates skipped the exams, they said.
The efforts of the board earned praise from teachers.
“I would like to congratulate the board on the early result declaration. This will greatly benefit class 10 and class 12 students in making wiser choices for their future,” said Pradeep Tripathi, principal of the UP Board affiliated Madhav Gyan Kendra Intermediate College of Naini, Allahabad.
Lalchandra Pathak, principal of Shiv Charan Das Kanhaiya Lal Intermediate College, Attarsuiya, Allahabad, said early declaration of results was the outcome of good planning and execution by the board officials. This would enable students to plan their future better and select the institutions for higher education, he said.
