Children’s books remain centre of attraction on day one of book fair

LUCKNOW: Children’s books remained the centre of attraction on the first day of the Lucknow Book Fair at the Sangeet Natak Akademi in Gomti Nagar on Monday.

The fair is jointly organised by the Lucknow Book Fair and Ankuram Shiksha Mahotsav.

The book fair witnessed participat­ion of the primary and upper primary schools from various districts of the state including Jhansi, Aligarh, Basti, Maharajgan­j, Etawah, Mathura, Gorkahpur, Kannuaj, Balrampur and Lucknow.

Convenor of Lucknow Book Fair, Manoj Singh said the theme of this year’s fair was ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’.

Leading publishers, distributo­rs and NGOs from across the country are taking part in the fair, said Singh.

Besides, the cultural organisati­ons from New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Gujarat and host Lucknow are also participat­ed in the 10-day long event, he added.

Singh said the organisers were in touch with the faculty of the GD Goenka School and various degree colleges such as Nari Shiksha Niketan, Navyug Kanya Mahavidyal­aya and SMS Management College to participat­e in events that would be

organised during the programme.

On the day, panel discussion­s were also held on subjects like quality primary education, agricultur­e and milk, digital initiative, fitness and sports, skill developmen­t and others.

Singh said the fair’s committee had also proposed to honour Arunima Sinha, first amputee women to scale Mt Everest and several other high peaks, with Shaan-e-Lucknow Award during the book fair on Tuesday.
