Jail inmates excel in UP Board exams
ALLAHABAD: Inmates of different prisons of UP have excelled in UP Board high school and intermediate examinations, the results of which were declared on Sunday.
As per Board’s reports, high school inmates recorded a pass percentage of 61.54 while in intermediate the pass percentage stood at 59.57.
Records revealed that in 2018 high school examination, 81 male inmates of 19 jails had registered of which 52 appeared in the exam and 32 were declared successful.
15 of the 19 jails, including Bijnor, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Khiri, Hardoi, Lucknow, Farrukhabad, Hamirpur and Fatehpur, recorded cent percent results in high school exams.
Bareilly jail having the highest count of 13 candidates secured zero result as none of the inmates could clear the exams.
Similarly, in intermediate examinations, 63 jail inmates from 16 jails registered for the exams, of which 47 appeared and 28 manage d to clear the same.
Of the 16 jails, including Mainpuri, Moradabad, Bijnor, Shahjahanpur, Unnao and Bahraich, six registered cent percent results.
In 2017, 60.49% results were registered in UP Board’s high school examination in jails and 74.67% in intermediate exams.
It was for the first time that the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad or UP Board declared the high school (class 10) and intermediate (class 12) results in April and the achievement was the outcome of sustained effort over many months, UP Board officials said.

schedule as early as October 27, 2017 and then conducted the exams for over 60.61 lakh candidates (34.04 lakh for Class 10 and 26.56 lakh for Class 12) across Uttar Pradesh between February 6 and March 11, 2018, said UP Board secretary Neena Srivastava.
This time, the board managed to complete the exams, evaluation of answer-sheets and declaration of results 40 days before the time taken for the entire exercise in 2017, she added.
