2 killed, over 30 hurt as bus comes in contact with high tension line

AGRA: Two people were electrocut­ed to death and over 30 injured after a bus carrying about 100 baaratis came in contact with a high tension line in Kagarol area of Agra district on Sunday night. Later, the bus also caught fire.

One of the deceased was father of the two brothers whose marriages were to be solemnised on Sunday. The angry villagers damaged police vehicles coming from Kagarol and Malpura police station.

On Monday, three cases were registered, of which two were registered at Kagarol police station and one at Malpura police station. One case was registered against electricit­y department for alleged negligence for not fixing the low lying high tension line which led to the mishap.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when the bus was taking baaratis to the marriage venue in Loria village of the district where marriage of two brothers from Dhandupura area of Agra was to be solemnised.

The bus carrying baaratis from Dhandupura took a turn on Baseri Chahar-Loria road but came in contact with the line carrying current of 11,000 volt.

Two passengers, identified as Bishan Swaroop and Jagdish Lal, were electrocut­ed to death on the spot while over 30 others were injured.

The power line tripped and the passengers in the bus jumped out but current came again and burnt the vacant bus.

One of the deceased, Swaroop was father of the two bride grooms. They were in different vehicles, so they reached the marriage venue. On the advise of elders, the marriage was solemnised even after the mishap.

However, angry villagers lost their cool over the mishap and damaged police vehicles coming from Kagarol and Malpura police stations in Agra.

“Three cases have been registered, two at Kagarol police station and one at Malpura police station. One of the cases at Kagarol is registered against the electricit­y department on the complaint of Bishan Swaroop’s son. The other two cases are against the unidentifi­ed miscreants in the mob which damaged the police vehicles,” said Dr Akhilesh Narain, SP (West), Agra.
