EXPERTS FROM MATHURA IN SITAPUR TO CATCH STRAY DOGS

A team of experts from Mathura arrived in Sitapur on Wednesday to tranquiliz­e and catch stray dogs that apparently killed three kids aged between 11 and 12 years in Khairabad area of the district on Tuesday. They will be assisted by four other combing teams constitute­d by Sitapur district administra­tion.

Khairabad area has off late been plagued by dog menace and reports suggested that over 100 dogs in the area have turned rogue and were repeatedly attacking children after

the closure of slaughterh­ouses in the area. The dogs earlier used to feed on remains that slaughterh­ouses used to dispose of.Talking to HT over phone, city magistrate of Sitapur Harsh Dev Pandey said a team of four experts from Mathura equipped with modern gadgets have assured to eliminate the menace from the area within a week.“The team will work in coordinati­on four other combing teams formed under the supervisio­n of sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Sadar Shashank Tripathi,” he said.Pandey said the teams are also

making announceme­nts using public address system asking villagers not to leave small children out in the open alone. “We are also trying to rope in locals and have asked all pradhans of Khairabad villages to assist the experts,” he said. Pandey said the teams have been directed to comb the thickets mainly during morning and evening, as most of the incidents take place during this time. He said help of some veterinari­an would also be taken to study this abnormal change in behaviour of the canines.
