GORAKHPUR : Deoria zila panchayat chairman Ram Pravesh Yadav, who is a Samajwadi Party leader, was booked along with five others for abducting a local man and forcing him to register his land worth Rs 10 crore in his (Yadav’s), his mother and wife’s names, police said. Four people, including Yadav’s brother, have been arrested.

Yadav, who was now on the run, used his political clout to get the registries done the same day, setting aside rules, superintendent of police Rohan P. Kanay said. The district police chief said: “The zila panchayat chairman took the victim to the registry office and forced him to register land worth Rs 10 crore .While two registries were done in his name, one each was done in the name of his mother Mewati Devi, brother Amit Yadav and wife Madhu Devi.”

“Police have withdrawn his gunner and are preparing to announce a reward of Rs 10,000 on the absconding accused,” he said. Deepak Mani aka Piyush Mani Tripathi, resident of Deoria Khas, had gone missing on April 20. When his family failed to trace him, his sister Shalini Shukla, resident of Chhattisgarh, lodged a missing complaint with the police on April 28.

After a tip-off, the police raided a commercial establishment and freed the missing man from clutches of abductors who had tied his hands and legs.

Those arrested during the raid included the zila panchayat chairman’s brother Amit Yadav ,Munna Chàuhan, Bramhanand Chaubey and driver Dharmendra Gaud. A case was registered against all of them.
