Criminals involved in highway murder and loot arrested

MEERUT: In a major breakthrou­gh, the Special Task Force (STF) has arrested three criminals involved in the murder of a bride and loot on the Delhi-Dehradun highway on Friday night. Raids were being conducted to arrest rest of the criminals involved in the crime, police said.

Working on a tip off, the STF along with the crime branch and Daurala police arrested on Tuesday Akshay and Dheeraj, both residents of Modinagar, and another aide from Jani area of Meerut.

“They used to target people commuting on highways,” said Alok Priyadarsh­i, SP STF, Meerut-Agra region. He said the criminals were also involved in a similar incident of loot on the highway in the month of February this year .

Raids were being conducted to arrest three of their aides, the SP said.

Shehjeb, resident of Mimrana road of Muzzaffarn­agar, was returning with his newly married wife Mehwish Parveen in a Swift car on April 27 when these criminals intercepte­d them near Mataur village under Daurala thana area on NH 58. They looted jewellery, cash and shot the bride when she resisted. She died on way to hospital. The criminals took away their car too.

According to the police sources, the criminals were tipped off by some person known to the family and were following them from a dhaba on the highway where the family had stopped for dinner.
