HC says IT College wrongly admitted B Ed students: LU spokesperson
LUCKNOW: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court, while hearing two petitions, ruled that the Isabella Thoburn College had wrongly admitted students in its B Ed courses without the approval of the University of Lucknow, said LU spokesperson Prof NK Pandey on Friday.
He said the court had, however, directed the university to permit the students concerned to appear in examinations, and also that their results be declared along with that of other students.
“The court directed that in both cases the fee of all semesters received by IT College from the students of B Ed courses would be reimbursed to LU,” said Pandey.
He said the court also directed the college not to violate directions of the university while taking admissions in future. “In case the college continues to take admissions illegally, the principal shall be held responsible,” said the LU spokesperson.
The judgment was announced on the writ petitions filed by IT College against LU last year. The college had challenged the varsity’s decision to disallow its 60 B Ed students from appearing in examination on the charge that their admissions, for academic session of 2017-18, had been made in contravention of rules.
A minority institution is allowed to fill only 50% of its seats on its own. The remaining seats are to be filled through the statelevel B Ed entrance test. However, IT college had admitted all students on its own.
IT College principal Vineeta Prakash said that the minority institution had been conducting entrance exams since 1998, after being granted recognition from NCTE as a testing agency.
In 2007, the college again got a court order to conduct entrance test from 2007 onwards, she said.
