UP SHIV SENA ANNOUNCES RS 5 LAKH REWARD FOR REMOVING PORTRAIT

VARANASI: The deputy chief of Shiv Sena’s Uttar Pradesh unit Arun Chaubey on Saturday announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for the person who removes Jinnah’s portrait from AMU. A group of Shiv Sainiks headed by Chaubey staged a demonstrat­ion near Mahavir Temple carrying placards which read that the Shiv Sena unit of Uttar Pradesh will give Rs 5 lakh to the person who removes the picture. They also raised slogans calling Jinnah a villain and held him responsibl­e for the partition of India.

Muslim Mahasangh announces ₹1 lakh award

RAMPUR: Amidst the row over presence of Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s portrait in the student’s union office of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), the national head of All-India Muslim Mahasangh Farhat Ali Khan on Friday announced a reward of ₹1 Lakh for destroying Jinnah’s portrait. Khan said that no organisati­on in Pakistan must be having photos of Indian leaders who fought for independen­ce, and the same should be followed in India. “I appeal everyone to tear and burn down portrait of Jinnah and people like him. I announce a reward of ₹1 Lakh cash for the one who burns down the portrait,” Khan said.

What’s the rationale behind demand: Islamic body

THIRUVANAN­THAPURAM : An Islamic organisati­on on Saturday questioned the rationale behind the demand of some right-wing activists for removing a portrait of Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). “What is the rationale behind such a demand after it has been there in public view for the past 80 years? Even if someone has such a demand, they can move courts for the same... Why such a row over it?” asked Jamaat-e-Islami Hind president Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari.
