City sizzles at 41.3°C

Met dept predicts rain and thundersto­rm in some areas of UP

LUCKNOW: The state capital recorded the hottest day of this summer on Monday as the mercury soared to 41.3 degrees Celsius that was two notches above normal.

The minimum temperatur­e was also three notches above normal at 27.5 degree Celsius.

But Lucknowite­s may expect drop in day temperatur­e on Tuesday as met department has predicted partly cloudy sky with rain/thundersto­rm very likely across the state.

The met department forecast says that maximum and minimum temperatur­e would be around 41 degrees and 26 degrees Celsius respective­ly.

Jhansi was hottest in the state on Monday at 43.2 degrees Celsius, Varanasi sizzled at 43 degrees, Allahabad at 42.8, Churk, Etawah, Banda and Hamirpur recorded 42.2 degrees Celsius, Agra 42 degrees, Fursatganj and Basti recorded 41.5 degrees Celsius and Sultanpur 41.4 degrees.

In the state capital, the day temperatur­e might have been 41.3 degrees Celsius but it felt like 43 degrees, said Anil Kumar, a commuter who was going back to office after taking lunch at home. Another commuter Girish Singh said his father suffered a heat stroke.

Doctors have advised people to carry a bottle of water while moving out and drink a glass of water before leaving home .

The state forecast was rain /thundersto­rm very likely at a few places over east Uttar Pradesh and at many places over west Uttar Pradesh, said JP Gupta, met director.

According to relief commission­er Sanjay Kumar, the state meteorolog­ical department has issued fresh warning of thundersto­rm accompanie­d by gusty winds in some areas in Rampur, Moradabad, JP Nagar, Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Meerut, Bijnor, Muzaffarna­gar, Saharanpur, Bareilly, Badaun, Aligarh, Bulandshha­r, Gautam Budh Nagar, Mathura, Etah and Hathras during the next 48 hours. “The DMs of these districts have been alerted,” he added.

The met department has issued warning of thundersto­rm accompanie­d with squall / gusty winds at a few places over the state.
