BARCELONA: Zinedine Zidane is optimistic Cristiano Ronaldo will be fit for the Champions League final against Liverpool despite Real Madrid’s star player going off injured against Barcelona on Sunday.

Ronaldo appeared to sustain a knock to his ankle as he bundled home a 14th-minute equaliser for Real at the Camp Nou. The striker played on until half-time but was substituted during the interval.

But Ronaldo’s injury will be the key talking point, with the Portugese now facing a fight to recover in time for the Champions League final against Liverpool on May 26.

“I don’t know how long he’ll be out. He said it wasn’t much, but we’ll see tomorrow, we’ll do some tests to see the extend of the damage done to his ankle. He was a little worried because it was a bit swollen, but he said that it’s nothing serious,” Zidane said following the stalemate..

Zidane denied putting a time frame on Ronaldo’s injury absence, despite the Champions League final against Liverpool being just three weeks away.

Zidane said he would have loved to win the match, especially because his side had got a lot of good opportunities to score goals in the match.

“I’d have liked to have won. There was nothing at stake but it was a good Cl?sico, high intensity and chances. They played well and so did we... We had a good opportunity to win.”
