LUCKNOW: A day after a lawyer Rajesh Srivastava was shot dead in broad daylight in Colonelganj area of Allahabad, the state government transferred the district’s police chief Akash Kulhary, on Friday.

SP (railways), Agra, Nitin Tiwari will replace Kulhary who has now been attached to DGP office in Lucknow.

Lawyers across the state observed a day-long strike on Friday to protest against the murder. The killing took place on a day when chief secretary Rajive Kumar, principal secretary (home) Arvind Kumar and DGP OP Singh were on a visit to Allahabad to review preparations for Kumbh-2019 and take stock of law and order situation in the region.

A home department officer familiar with the development said two sensational murders within three days led to Kulhary’s transfer. On Tuesday, unidentified assailants had shot dead a BJP corporator Pawan Kesari.

Considered close to deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, Kesari had reportedly informed the SSP about threat to his life. The corporator’s family members said he had called up the SSP to demand security after which Kulhary asked Kesari to meet him in his office to discuss the issue. However, within an hour of the telephonic conservation Kesari was killed by bike-borne assailants, they alleged.

ALLAHABAD Five teams constituted to trace the shooters of lawyer Rajesh Kumar Srivastava are raiding hotels, lodges, hostels and their other possible hideouts. Meanwhile, one of the named accused Pradeep Jaiswal was arrested and sent to jail, said inspector Colonelganj Satyendra Singh.

The other accused Kamal is yet to be identified as there are three nagar nigam employees with the same name. Rajesh’s brother Brajesh who lodged the FIR failed to recognise the trio as the person with whom his brother had a scuffle some days back, Singh added.

“Police are trying to identify the other accused with the help of Nagar Nigam officials,” he claimed. At least three persons whose appearance was matching with the two shooters were picked up from Dhumanganj for questioning on Friday. However,

:

their involvement in the murder has not been established yet.

Meanwhile, lawyers at the district court and the high court boycotted judicial work. The lawyers under the District Bar Association torched the effigy of the state government outside the SSP office.

The lawyers at the high court also staged a demonstration against the ‘poor’ law and order in the state.
