LUCKNOW : Khalid, 12, was a bright student, always standing out among his classmates. His mother Mehzabi had big dreams for her son and the family believed that he would turn around their fortune. His untimely death in an unfortunate incident when he was attacked by a pack of feral dogs on May 1 shattered all their hopes.

“I have lost my son and he will not return at any cost. My and my husband Abid Ali’s hopes are shattered. We believed that our condition would change as Khalid was good at studies and had the ability to excel,” said Mehzabi, adding , “I have no wish to change my life now”.

She said she was still not able to believe that Khalid was no more.

“I still feel while sleeping that Khalid is sleeping next to me. Many times I feel that he is calling me. Sometimes I ask his siblings to call him to have his meal. But soon people remind me that Khalid is dead and will never come back ,” she said, unable to hold back her tears .

Khalid was the second eldest among five siblings.

His father Abid Ali said he was well aware about his wife’s condition but was helpless and there was no other way to forget his son than to remain busy in work. “Still he (Khalid) comes in my thoughts as soon as I get free and lie down to sleep,” he said. Khalid was killed by a pack of feral dogs when he had gone to collect mangoes in an orchard near his house in Gurpalia village on the morning of May 1.
