Inquiry ordered into cops’ insensitive approach

AGRA: An inquiry was ordered in a case of alleged ‘insensitive approach’ by Kotwali police of Mainpuri, wherein they asked the family members of a deceased girl to ‘seal’ her body with a cloth after the post mortem, police said.

Superintendent of police (SP), Mainpuri, Ajay Shankar Rai has asked the Kotwali circle officer to conduct the inquiry and submit his report within 48 hours.

“Prima facie, the matter appears to be of ‘insensitive approach’ by policemen and a probe has been ordered,” stated Rai on Friday.

Anjali, 16, a resident of Mohan Nagar in Mainpuri committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan on Thursday, allegedly over failing in her

UP Board high school exams.

“The Kotwali police was informed and they, instead of making necessary arrangements themselves, asked the deceased’s family members to make arrangements for taking the body to the mortuary for post mortem,” a family member of the deceased said.

“Further, after the post mortem was conducted, the cops

again asked us to arrange for a sheet and seal the body,” he said.

The police behaved like a spectator while the grieving mother of deceased girl tried to stitch the cloth over the body. However, she could not stitch the whole cloth, so another woman family member and an acquaintance stitched the cloth over the body, he added.
