HC seeks response from UP govt, Centre

-

LUCKNOW: In view of repeated cases of severe and fatal injuries being caused due to the Chinese Manjha used in kites, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court has sought a response from the central and Uttar Pradesh governments on a plea for prevention of the same.

A division bench comprising justice Vikram Nath and justice Abdul Moin passed the order on a PIL filed by a local lawyer ML Yadav.

The petitioner sought that directions be issued to the central government for implementation of the ban on import of Chinese Manjha and to ensure that states also comply accordingly.

The petitioner submitted that repeated incidents are taking place in different parts of the state, wherein two- wheeler riders are at the greatest risk.

Chief standing counsel Ramesh Pandey, citing government order ( GO ) dated November 11,2017, said that the state had already imposed a ban on manufacturing, storage, use and sale of Chinese Manjha in compliance with the court’s order as well as the National Green Tribunal.

The court granted two weeks to CSC Pandey to obtain further instructions in the matter as to how this GO is actually being implemented at the ground level.

It has also provided two weeks to the central government counsel SB Pandey to obtain instructions from the centre as to whether any such ban has been enforced by it or not.

The case has been listed for July 4.
