RAE BARELI: For this childless couple, Chunmun was their sole heir. Having adopted Chunmun in 2002, the lawyer couple Savista and Brajesh lavished everything on him. They also registered their property worth crores of rupees in his name. When Chunmun came of age, they got him married.

It was one small happy family. However, Chunmun’s death last November left the couple shattered. After conducting his terahi, the couple finally decided to build a temple in his name that was inaugurated on May 14. For the grieving parents, it was the ultimate gift for their adopted monkey baby!

Chunmun’s statue has been placed near the idols of Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman in the temple where his parents offer prayers. Going a step further, Savista and Brajesh are planning to do social service in the name of their ‘son.’ “We are going to deploy a hearse and an ambulance in the name of Chunmun that will help the poor and needy,” they said. The couple resides in Shakti Nagar locality, Rae Bareli.

Incidentally, Savista is a Muslim while Brajesh is a Hindu. They fell in love and married around 25 years ago despite opposition from their family. With no children, they decided to adopt Chunmun. They registered their house, vehicle, 2 bigha land in the city and another 2 biswa plot besides a fixed deposit of ₹20 lakhs in the name of Chunmun. They also constructed an air conditioned room for their ‘son’ and performed his marriage in 2007 with great pomp and show. However, Chunmun died on November 15, 2017 of natural causes. Savista and Brajesh got his ‘samadhi’ made in their house after which they performed the terahi rituals.
