Drug peddler arrested, 4.5 kg hashish recovered

LUCKNOW A drug peddler carrying around 4.5 kg good quality of Nepalese Charas (hashish) was arrested by the police from Bakshi Ka Talab area on Sunday. The recovered narcotics were estimated to be worth several lakhs in the internatio­nal market, said cops.

Tej Prakash Singh, station house officer (SHO), Bakshi Ka Talab, said the accused was identified as Saddam alias ‘Kala’ of Kairana, Shamli. He was bringing hashish from Nepal through the porous India-Nepal border adjoining Balrampur district.

“We arrested him when he was standing near a roadside dhaba on Lucknow-Sitapur road. He reached Lucknow by taking lift in a truck and was searching for another vehicle as the truck driver stopped at the dhaba and decided to take night halt,” the

SHO stated while narrating the incident.

He said the police team identified Saddam on a specific tip-off that a person holding a black bag was carrying hashish. Five packets of hashish were found in the bag in between the clothes.

During interrogat­ion, Saddam confessed that he used to purchase hashish for some Nepalese people and sell it in Shamli and its adjoining areas. The SHO said some more members of Saddam’s family were also suspected to be involved in this racket and further probe was on in the matter. He said Saddam had been sent to jail after being booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances Act.
