Mercury continues to soar, may hover around 41 degrees today

LUCKNOW: City residents preferred staying indoors on Sunday as the day temperatur­e was recorded at 40.3 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperatur­e for the day was recorded at 26.5 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatur­es on Monday are expected to hover around 41 and 26 degrees Celsius respective­ly.

The met department had predicted hot and sultry weather in days to come as weather is likely to remain dry across the state. On Sunday, Orai was hottest in the state with day temperatur­e at 44 degrees Celsius. Banda and Hamirpur sizzled at 43.2 degrees Celsius, Allahabad at 43, Etawah at 42.4, Agra at 42.3 and Fatehgarh sizzled at 42.2 degrees Celsius.

“The temperatur­e has increased in the last 24 hours. It has become difficult to move out of the house during the daytime,” said Sonia Singh, a homemaker.

“Wearing sunscreen is a must to avoid sunburn if you have to go out in daytime,” said Sheeri Siddiqui, a student. People should people staying indoors or go out in evening to protect themselves from heat stroke, she added.

Doctors suggest increasing the intake of fruits with high water content like watermelon, cucumber, muskmelon and coconut to beat the sweltering heat.

“I place water bowl for birds and animals outside my home,” said Deepak Singh, a bird lover.

He added, “Birds and animals dehydrate in this scorching heat so people should at least keep a bowl of water for them. It’s a simple act of kindness which I think everyone can easily do.”
