VARANASI: Reminding the Yogi government of PM Narendra Modi’s of pre-poll promise to implement the ‘Gujarat model’ in the state, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief Omprakash Rajbhar on Sunday said the state government should ban liquor in Uttar Pradesh as well.

“If liquor can be banned in eight states of the country, then why it can’t be done in Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

Addressing a women’s rally that his party had organised at TD College ground in Ballia district, Rajbhar, a cabinet minister in the Yogi government, said, “We are sounding bugle against liquor from the revolutionary land of Ballia. We will take rest only after liquor is banned in UP. Liquor ban will open door of progress for the poor and they will also connect with the mainstream of development.”

“Mostly women are the worst sufferers of the bad effect of liquor. I have come to attend the rally on the invitation of women. They all want a ban on liquor. Prime minister Modi is in favour of banning liquor. He also made a mention of it in Maan ki Baat. I have also spoken to chief minister Yogi Adityanath about it. We will ensure ban on liquor,” he said.

“On one hand prohibition department appeals to people to keep away from liquor, the excise department makes efforts to maximise liquor sale on the other. It is an irony,” the minister said.

Moreover, he also appealed to people to pay attention to education of girls.

The UP minister claimed chief minister Yogi Adityanath had agreed to provide benefits in reservation on the basis of backward, most backward and extremely backward status.

“After it is implemented, people of backward classes would get benefit in government jobs,” he said.

Rajbhar appealed to women that they should ensure that Narendra Modi becomes the prime minister of the country once again in 2019.
