GORAKHPUR: Union textile minister Smriti Irani on Monday hit out at the Congress, saying those who ruled the country for 60 years and looted public money now failed to see the good work done for the poor by the BJP government.

“Those who resorted to Commonwealth (Games) scams worth billions can’t see good days now as they are not benefitted,” she said at a public meeting at Kisan inter college in Basti.

“After 70 years of Independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to come to give people gas connections… and they (the Congress) claim to have developed the country,” she said.

“Similarly, the 60-year Congress rule failed to provide one rank, one pension (to ex-servicemen) and it was the Modi government which finally implemented it,” she said.

Irani also attacked the Congress for questioning surgical strikes carried out across the border and “thereby dishonouring brave soldiers.”

Irani further accused the Congress of grabbing power by selling dreams to the people.

She said PM Narendra Modi was serving the country as pradhan sevak and it was under his leadership that the country was moving ahead on the path of development.

“In the last four years, special focus has been put on the country’s sanitation. Toilets have been built in seven lakh houses while 3.4 lakh villages have been declared open defecation free (ODF),” she said.

Attacking a former CM, Irani said those who were not ready to vacate their government bungalow talked about serving the people.
