LUCKNOW: Over 10 lakh residents of Gomti Nagar and Indira Nagar got relief from water woes as supply was normalised in their areas on Friday. Water released by the irrigation department into the Sharda Canal reached Kathauta lake from where Jal Sansthan supplied water to these areas.

After the chlorination process at Kathauta lake, the water supply plant was switched on in the presence of mayor Sanyukta Bhatia.

Vice-chairman of LMC house Arun Tewari, corporator Ram Krishna Yadav and others were also present there.

SK Varma, general manager, Jal Sansthan said: “It’s not only relief for the residents, but also for the officials and staff of Jal Sansthan who had to ensure water supply in these areas by diverting supply from areas like Chinhat, Khurram Nagar and Ismailganj. Water supply from more than 52 tubewells in these areas was diverted as the level in the lake went below the normal mark.”

However, Arun Tewari, corporator from Gomti Nagar, said though water supply was yet to be normalised in some areas, there was an improvement in supply since Friday evening.

On the other hand, residents of Alambagh, Chander Nagar gheraoed the office of executive engineer Jal Sansthan in Alambagh for poor water supply in their area.

The residents were assured of proper supply by executive engineer Mahesh Chandra Azad.
