LUCKNOW: Seven youngsters were arrested on Sunday for rash and negligent driving, while performing motorbike stunts in Gomti Nagar. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, police also seized six highpowered motorcycles from the youths.

Inspector Gomti Nagar police station Jitendra Pratap Singh said a checking drive was undertaken after information was received that some youngsters were performing life-threatening motorcycle stunts near the G om ti River Front and on the Samta Mulak crossing.

“A police team arrested the riders while they were performing the stunts, and booked them under IPC section 279 for rash and negligent driving,” said Singh.

The inspector said that the menace of stunt biking risked not just the lives of riders but also of other commuters.

“The youths were performing the ‘wheelie’ stunt and were racing on the stretch in a precarious way,” he said. Stunt biking has been a menace in Gomti Nagar and adjoining areas for the past few years. It has also resulted in deaths of stunt performers and other people. Police said the menace continues despite multiple drives to curb it.

SSP Deepak Kumar said the police would soon launch another drive to curb stunt biking on city roads. “The police have prepared

a list of spots popular for stunt biking and proper measures will be taken to slow down vehicular speed in these stretches,” he said.
