CBI likely to quiz another former SP of Unnao

-

LUCKNOW : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to question and record statement of another woman IPS officer of 2009 batch, Neha Pandey, in connection with delay in registration of FIR against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his woman aide Shashi Singh in connection with rape and kidnapping of the teenage victim.

A senior CBI official said Pandey, who is now on central deputation and posted in intelligence bureau, was superintendent of police (SP) Unnao when the girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped in June, 2017.

“The victim girl’s uncle had alleged that the Unnao district police had not included the name of the BJP MLA and his woman aide due to his political clout in June 2017. Pandey will be questioned over the same allegations as to why the FIR was not registered during her tenure as SP Unnao from February 2, 2016 to October 26, 2017,” said the CBI official.

He said another former SP Unnao, Pushpanjali Devi, a 2006 batch officer, was quizzed and her statement was recorded on Saturday in connection with the delay in registration of FIR against the BJP MLA and his aides and framing of the rape victim’s father in a false case after he was assaulted allegedly by the MLA’s brother Atul Singh Sengar and his aides.

Another CBI official said Devi had stated that she

was not well aware about the entire sequence of incident as the matter is of June 2017 when Pandey was SP Unnao. Devi was SP Unnao from October 27, 2017 to April 29, 2018 and was transferred and attached to director general of police headquarters in Lucknow since April 30, 2018 after accusations over her biased role in the entire incident. Talking over phone, the victim’s uncle on Sunday confirmed that the incident happed when Pandey was SP Unnao and the MLA’s name was not included in the FIR despite running from pillar to post and finally the victim’s family had to move court to seek justice.

The matter hogged the limelight when the victim girl and other women members of her family tried to immolate themselves near Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow on April 8, 2018 demanding action against the MLA and his aides.

Her father, who was badly beaten up allegedly by the MLA’s brother and aides on April 3, had died in Unnao district jail on the very next day on April 9, 2018. He died due to injuries in the attack.
