Seven firms successful­ly bid for Purvanchal Eway

LUCKNOW : The UP Expressway­s Industrial Developmen­t Authority (UPEIDA) on Monday announced the names of seven firms which bid successful­ly for the Purvanchal Expressway that will link eastern UP with the state capital. “In all, we had received 42 bids for the total eight packages in which the expressway will be developed,” said a UPEIDA official.

LUCKNOW : The UP Expressway­s Industrial Developmen­t Authority (UPEIDA) on Monday announced the names of seven firms which bid successful­ly for developing the Purvanchal Expressway that will link eastern UP with the state capital.

“In all, we had received 42 bids for the total eight packages in which the expressway will be developed,” said a UPEIDA official. The bids were opened in a meeting chaired by infrastruc­ture and industrial developmen­t commission­er on May 11 but the names of lowest bidders, who bagged the contracts, were released on Monday by UPEIDA. The 353-km-long expressway will provide seamless connectivi­ty to nine Eastern UP districts by linking the 165 km AgraGreate­r Noida Yamuna Expressway, and the 302 km Agra-Lucknow Expressway to Lucknow and give a boost to trade.

Planned as a six-lane accesscont­rolled expressway but expandable to eight lanes, it will connect Lucknow to Ghazipur and pass through Barabanki, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur districts.

The expressway will be developed on the mode of engineerin­g, procuremen­t and constructi­on (EPC). It will start from Chand Sarai in Lucknow and end at Haidaria in Ghazipur district.

Beginning with package 1, the names of the lowest bidders in the order of sequence include M/s NCC Ltd, M/s Apco Infratech Pvt Ltd, M/s Larsen & Toubro Ltd, M/s PNC Infratech Ltd, M/s Larsen & Toubro Ltd, VI M/s Gayatri Projects Ltd, M/s Afcons Infrastruc­ture Ltd and M/s Reliance Infrastruc­ture Ltd. L&T was the only firm to bag two contracts as its bids were the lowest. The contract will be awarded after the shorlisted bids are okayed by the state government.

The state government will spend Rs 23,349 crore on building the project, which will be ready by 2020.

Out of this, while Rs 11,800 crore will be spent on constructi­on, Rs 6,500 crore will be the cost of the land acquired for the project.

Majority of the funds required for the project will be secured by way of loan and several banks have already pledged and sanctioned money for the proposed expressway.
