LUCKNOW: A fresh controversy hit the UP ATS just two days after the tragic death of its additional superintendent of police (ASP) Rajesh Sahni. This time, ATS inspector Yatindra Sharma posted news about his resignation on his facebook wall on Wednesday night. He said he had sent it to UP director general of police (DGP) OP Singh. However, he retracted later and made a fresh post on Facebook after deleting the previous one.
In the facebook post on Wednesday night, Sharma expressed his distress over what he described as “the existing misdeeds in the police department”.
His post read that he was very shocked and sad about the suicide of ASP Rajesh Sahni.
He, however, refused to make any comments on his post related to the resignation letter during his visit to the DGP headquarters on Thursday. He later posted fresh comments after removing the previous post. “I decided to resign as I was badly disheartened with the sudden death of Sahni sir but later decided to continue with his service, taking lessons from his (Rajesh Sahni) sentiments,” he mentioned in the fresh post on Thursday evening.
While talking to media, Sharma said he had sought transfer from ATS and will join whichever post he is shifted to. He said he had applied for the transfer, which was pending for last two months but he had full faith that senior authorities will consider his application.
Sahni, a 1992 batch UP Provincial Police Service (PPS) officer, was with the ATS since June 2014. He allegedly shot himself dead with a service pistol while sitting in his office room at the ATS headquarters in Gomti Nagar on Tuesday afternoon.
He had come to the office despite being on leave for 10 days since Monday.
Rajesh’s classmates from St Xavier’s High School, Patna, described him as a courageous, honest, bold and a jovial person with an independent mind. They, too, believe that Rajesh wasn’t the kind of man who would take his own life.
Hundreds of people, including family members, senior police officers, journalists and others, had bid a final adieu to anti-terrorist squad (ATS) officer Rajesh Sahni.
Sahni’s only daughter Shreya had performed his last rites.
Director general of police (DGP) OP Singh and other senior officials including ADG Rajeev Krishna, IG Sujeet Pandey and GK Goswami had shouldered Sahni’s bier.
Later, Singh consoled Sahni’s daughter and assured all support to the family from the department.
