3 closed Cantt roads opened for public
BIG RELIEF Residents of Neelmatha and Topkhana had to travel 5 to 10 km extra
LUCKNOW: In a move that has brought immense relief to the people of Neelmatha and Topkhana, last week the Cantt authorities threw open three crossings for the public that were hitherto blocked. Consequently, residents of Neelmatha and Topkhana had to travel 5 to 10 km extra to reach their destinations.
Vice chairman Cantt Board Pramod Sharma said, “Around two lakh population in these areas would benefit by the decision. Now people can use these roads even at night.”
He said earlier the residents of these areas were not allowed to use these roads and so they faced problems. When anyone fell ill at night, they had no alternative but to take a 10 km longer route.
CEO Cantt Amit Mishra said all these routes would remain open for public at night but they would have to carry their photo identity cards with them.

could use it after showing their photo identity cards. Similarly, Thimaiyya Road and Cariappa Road are also open for common people.
He said the decision was taken after demand from the public representatives of Cantt Board.
Vice chairman Cantt Board said, “A delegation of corporators from Lucknow Cantt met defence minister Nirmala Sitaraman and home minister Rajnath Singh over the issue. I am happy the demand was considered and these three routes were opened for public. However, we agree that the army has the right to check the identity cards before allowing anyone to enter in the Cantonment area.“
