Tech snags during online test didn’t affect performance of city candidates
LUCKNOW: Despite the widespread technical glitches that examinees faced during the online test, Lucknow candidates passed the exam with flying colours in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)-2018. The results of the exam were declared on Thursday and are available on the official website of CLAT at clat.ac.in.
However, city’s high scorers said they could have done much better had they not encountered the technical snag during the examination.
Aditya Kumar Singh, who secured AIR-35 in the CLAT, said, “My computer screen froze for around 5 to 10 minutes. And the support staff had no clue how to address the snag. Since, during mock test, I used to try and finish the test before time. This helped me to complete the exam on time.”
It was Aditya’s second attempt and he scored 140 marks out of 200. A student of St Francis College, Aditya is excited waiting to enter the portals of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru.
An avid reader and debater, Aditya said “I have been solving mock test papers of the past years and practiced to solve the papers in minimum possible time.” He scored 95% in ISC Board from commerce stream.
Shivangi Mishra, a student of GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow was happy with her AIR-49 in her first attempt. “Technical snag caused a lot of chaos during exams. However, I gave my best and finished the test on time and also respect court’s decisions as nobody is above court and law,” said Shivangi who got 137 marks out of 200.
She is planning to opt for her dream college NLSIU, Bengaluru. She added, “I was consistent in studies and started preparing for CLAT from day one as I knew it was not easy to crack. My parents and teachers were very supportive throughout the preparation.” A science student, she scored 94.5% in CBSE Board class 12.
Tanisha Mishra, 18, secured AIR-96 in her first attempt in CLAT. “This year’s CLAT was the worst managed. I too faced some technical glitches. My computer hung twice. All the examinees were shouting and it got difficult to concentrate. However, the technical glitches did affect my performance. All is well that ends well,” said Tanisha, a student of Loreto Convent Intermediate College.
She got 133 marks out of 200 in CLAT and had scored 93.25% in ISC board from commerce stream. On her strategies, she said “I started preparing for CLAT from class 11 and extensively focused on general knowledge in class 12.”
The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) in Kochi had conducted the CLAT-2018 on May 13 this year. Around 54,000 candidates took the examinations to gain admission to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in 19 national law universities.
Several petitions that sought quashing of the examinations over alleged inconsistencies and technical glitches were filed in many high courts across the country and also the Supreme Court.
However, the Supreme Court rejected the plea for cancellation of the exam and a re-test on Wednesday.
