Dussehri mangoes: CISH exploring market in Hyderabad
LUCKNOW: With Malihabadi Dussehri mangoes gaining popularity across the country, the ICAR-CISH (Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture) is now searching for its market in Hyderabad.
Recently, the mango farmers of Awadh Aam Utpadak Evam Bagwani Samiti, Nabipanah, Malihabad, met ICAR-CISH scientists to explore possibility of the alternative markets other than Delhi. It was found that during last two decades, thousands of Dussehri plants have been planted in the areas near Hyderabad as people of this region have developed a liking for this variety. In such a situation, Hyderabad was identified as a market with better prospects for Dussehri.
The farmers also requested the CISH scientists to conduct a pilot study for exploring the possibilities in Hyderabad this season. National Academy of Agriculture Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad which is coordinating several components of ‘farmers first programme’, will play the role of the facilitator in searching the market. “Display of Dussehri mango samples in Hyderabad will help in attracting traders. Good sustainable mango markets can be established at distant places if the producers and marketing people have proper understanding,” said Shailendra Rajan, director of ICAR-CISH.
“Chances of farmers’ profit will increase as the share of intermediaries is likely to be reduced ,” said Rajan. Recently, sample of unripe mangoes was dispatched from Lucknow to Hyderabad. One scientist from CISH accompanied the samples.
