LUCKNOW:The estate department is likely to issue a fresh notice to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, reminding her of a Supreme Court order if she fails to vacate the bungalow on 13-A Mall Avenue here on Saturday when the deadline for handing over the premises to the government expires.

Another former chief minister ND Tiwari, who has not vacated the bungalow on 1-A Mall Avenue, is also likely to be served a fresh notice if he fails to comply with the apex court order. Tiwari is admitted in a Delhi hospital and his wife has sought a year’s time to vacate the bungalow.

Last month, six former UP chief ministers were asked to vacate their government bungalows in consonance with a Supreme Court order.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has booked four suites in the VVIP guesthouse located Mahatma Gandhi Marg. In a letter to the estate officer, Akhilesh has requested that four suites be reserved for himself, his wife and Kannauj MP Dimple Yadav, as well as Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjay Seth and Surendra Nagar.

An estate department officer confirmed that four suites were booked for the SP leaders but they did not move into the guesthouse on Friday. An SP leader said since the private accommodation of the party chief in a private township near Shaheed Path was located far from the party office, he decided to move into the guesthouse situated near the state unit office. It will be easy for him to move to the party office and meet the party leaders from there, he said.

In a related development, a new residence for Akhilesh Yadav is being constructed on 1-A, Vikramaditya Marg near the party office. The bungalow on 4 Vikramaditya that was allotted to Yadav in capacity of the former CM was also near the party office. In view of political engagements due to the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Akhilesh decided to stay near the party office and use the government guesthouse, a person familiar with the matter said.

Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav is also shifting to a private bungalow located adjacent to his son Akhilesh’s resident. Renovation work at both the bungalows was in full swing on Friday.

The estate department on Friday received the keys of union home minister Rajnath Singh’s bungalow on 4 Kalidas Marg. Singh has shifted to a private accommodation in Gomti Nagar. Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh has already surrendered his bungalow on posh Mall Avenue.

Estate officer Yaogesh Shukla said the estate department was awaiting communication from the BSP chief about vacating the bungalow on 13-A Mall Avenue that was allotted to her in the capacity of former CM.

Though she sent the keys of another bungalow on 6 Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, the estate department said it was not allotted to her as former CM. The staff of the BSP chief was staying in the bungalow. She would have to vacate the bungalow on 13-A Mall Avenue in consonance with the apex court order, he said.

Mayawati had sent a letter to chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday (May 25), stating that the estate department’s direction to vacate the 13A Mall bungalow in consonance with a Supreme Court order was wrong.
