‘Riverfront­s in Mathura, Ayodhya and Kashi soon’

Irrigation minister says the state govt is committed towards saving rivers

AGRA : After the Gomti riverfront project in Lucknow which got mired in controvers­ies and probes, the state government is planning to have riverfront­s in Mathura, Ayodhya and Varanasi. During his visit to Agra on Friday, Uttar Pradesh irrigation minister Dharampal Singh said riverfront would be developed in Mathura, Ayodhya and Varanasi in state. He also talked tough on releasing of industrial waste in rivers and asked officials concerned to initiate action against the guilty.

AGRA:After the Gomti riverfront project in Lucknow which got mired in controvers­ies and probes, the state government is planning to have riverfront­s in Mathura, Ayodhya and Varanasi.

During his visit to Agra on Friday, Uttar Pradesh irrigation minister Dharampal Singh said that riverfront would be developed in Mathura, Ayodhya and Varanasi in state.

He also talked tough on releasing of industrial waste in rivers and asked officials concerned to initiate action against the guilty.

The minister spent a busy day holding meetings with officials to review progress of various projects.

He also visited the site for the upcoming Taj Barrage, an ambitious project announced by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on river Yamuna in Agra.

“The state government is committed to save rivers and is working for the revival of rivers all over the state. The public participat­ion is welcomed in reviving rivers including Gomti, Varuna, Ami, Tamsa, Sai, Arel and others,” said the minister.

“The chief minister had already announced the Taj Barrage project on river Yamuna in Agra and its location in the backdrop of Taj Mahal would add to the beauty of the monument. The barrage at 1.5 kilometre downstream would help in giving a boost to internatio­nal tourism. Facility of boating, availabili­ty of water, beautifica­tion of the location would be added attraction in the city of Taj,” said Singh.

Meanwhile, the minister also asked officials to ensure that no polluting waste from industries was added to any river.

He stressed on imposing penalty on erring factory owners. He also met elected leaders and assured early release of funds for Taj Barrage Project in Agra.
