When Lucknow newspapers carried reports of dogs killing children in the villages of Sitapur, a town only 80 km away from the state capital, a war of words erupted between dog lovers in Uttar Pradesh and the media over the coverage. In all such cases, the dogs were prized for their strength or their ability to kill.

There are also several horror stories regarding dogs, which dog lovers normally like to gloss over.

Families that have kept animals like big dogs as pets have also experienced tragedies in their homes.

The dog in a fit of rage has even killed a child in the family. Dogs, like all other animals, are unpredictable and can turn on humans if it is a matter of their own survival.

Mediapersons are often referred to as the watchdogs of the society. Their jobs is to report events as they occur. They are messengers and the cardinal rule of every society is that we do not shoot the messenger. AJIT CHAK
