Auditions for movie on Begum Akhtar’s life on June 11
LUCKNOW: Now, there will be a movie based on the life story of ‘malika-e-ghazal’ Begum Akhtar, who is said to have carried the essence of Lucknow and Faizabad’s culture in her personality. Auditions for the movie will take place in Lucknow on June 11.
Sources close to the film said that it will be jointly produced by Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University, Faizabad, and Shyama productions.
“We are proud to be associated with the upcoming film, as Akthtari Bai (another name by which the ghazal singer was known) originally hailed from Faizabad before she shifted to Lucknow. The making of this film will be a learning experience for our students,” said Prof Manoj Dixit, vice-chancellor of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University, Faizabad, on Saturday.
The university will also build a ‘Begum Akhtar Music Academy’, as a tribute to the legend whose soul stirring renditions of ‘thumri’ ‘dadra’
