VARANASI :Union health minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Saturday inaugurated Rajni Kant Kendra Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital set up by NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant in Saharaspali area in Ballia. Kant was also present on the occasion.

Addressing a public gathering, Nadda said, “NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has set up the eye hospital in the name of his father Rajni Kant here in Ballia. This is a great work. He should build such centres in other parts of the country. The governments at the Centre and states will provide all possible support to him in this good work.”

“Now local patients won’t have to run to Varanasi or any other city for better treatment as best facilities are available here.” Nadda further said the selfless service is our tradition and that it should be carried forward.

“If people and non-government organisations rise above the mindset that everything will be done by the government and start contributing to the development, transformation will be visible all around,” Nadda said.

The minister announced that 1.5 lakh sub-centres will be converted into Nirog Kendra (wellness centres). The centre will be equipped with facilities to conduct tests for detecting serious diseases including diabetes and cancer besides first aid. The centres will benefit 125 crore people of the country.

“The centre is working in the direction that everyone remains fit and healthy and diseases remain away from people so that nobody becomes patient,” Nadda added. He said 666 dialysis machines were set up at hospitals across the country.

Lauding Kant’s efforts, UP health minister Sidharth Nath Singh appealed to him and his brother Ravi Kant to set up such centres in other districts of the state as well. The state government would provide him support at every step, he added.

A scheme and fellowship were also announced.

Free operation of a patient of blindness will be done daily under the late Prashant Kant scheme while Rajni Kant Fellowship would be provided to five meritorious girls every year.

Union minister of state for health Anupriya Patel said Ayushman Bharat scheme, which has been started for financially weaker people, will benefit 6 crore people in Uttar Pradesh alone.

A statue of Rajni Kant was unveiled by Nadda, Patel and Singh together on the occasion. On the opening day, 2150 people were examined at the eye hospital. Of them, 750 were diagnosed with cataract.

If people and NGOs rise above the mindset that everything will be done by the government and start contributing to the development, transformation will be visible all around JP NADDA, Union health minister
