LUCKNOW: Jawans of the UP Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) would take lessons in religious and social etiquette before being deployed at the Kumbh in Allahabad in January next year. “The top police brass is mulling over preparing a module for behavioural as well as professional training of PAC personnel to sensitise them about how to treat pilgrims at the Kumbh,” a PAC official said.

LUCKNOW: Jawans of the UP Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) would take lessons in religious and social etiquette before being deployed at the Kumbh, the world largest religious gathering, in Allahabad in January next year.

“The top police brass is mulling over preparing a module for behavioural as well as professional training of PAC personnel to sensitise them about how to treat pilgrims at the Kumbh,” a senior PAC official said.

He said the training was planned as a part of the UP DGP OP Singh’s initiative to transform the image of men in khaki as empathetic and sensitive.

The official said Kumbh was always the centre of attraction all over the world and the occasion was best suited showcase PAC performance and change its image. Around 6 crore pilgrims from different parts of the country as well as the world were expected to take a dip during the Kumbh.

He said i a training schedule for ‘jawans’ was top on the agenda in a meeting of officers of PAC headquarters and commandants of different battalions scheduled on Monday. The plan will be floated and the commandants will be asked to suggest ideas and finalise the training module.

The official said the initial plan was to hold two weeks’ training for PAC personnel of all companies to be deployed for the security of the religious gathering. Inspector general (IG) of police, PAC headquarters, A Satish Ganesh confirmed that the preparation for Kumbh was one of the 22 agendas listed for the Monday meeting. “We can share further details only after finalising different points,” he said.

Ganesh said there were some more important points like redistribution of PAC battalions (one battalion comprises 8 companies of PAC) to decrease the transportation process of PAC jawans from one place to other.

The IG said it was being observed that the eastern part of the state had more PAC deployment due to different reasons. “Many a time PAC companies of battalions located in west UP are transported to eastern regions when the deployment is to be increased. We are mulling over increasing the companies in the battalions located in eastern region so that transportation of PAC jawans from one place to another may be reduced to some extent,” he explained.

He said it would reduce transportation as expenses aa well as stress for PAC jawans.

“Some other important subjects on the list are preparation for flood season before monsoon hits the state by the end of June. The commandants of different battalions have been asked to visit the sites and villages that are often affected by flood and maintain coordination with districts’ authorities to remain well prepared for the crisis,” the IG said, adding “Besides, some jawans’ welfare would also be discussed in the meeting.”
