Shia Board chief supports uniform civil code
LUCKNOW: Chairman of the UP Shia Central Waqf Board Waseem Rizvi has supported enactment of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) with a common law for all communities on issues related to marriage, divorce, succession and adoption.
In a proposal submitted to the National Law Commission chairman justice (retired) BS Chauhan on Wednesday, Rizvi cited the example of Goa, which has a common civil code since 1965. “If Goa can do it, why not other states also?” he asked, adding this was one of the aspirations of the Constitution as enshrined under the Directive Principles.
