KANPUR: The CBI team investigating the rape of a teenage girl and murder of her father in Unnao allegedly by BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar and his brother on Saturday recovered a country-made pistol from the residential quarter of a policeman accused in the case.

CBI sub-inspector Rakakant Tiwari lodged an FIR against Singh at Makhi police station under the Arms Act.

The accused policeman, subinspector KP Singh, was posted at Makhi police station under which the crime had taken place. Singh is in jail with five other policemen in connection with the murder of the rape victim’s father.

The CBI team, which stayed at Makhi village for nine hours, searched Singh’s room for about an hour, officials familiar with the developments said.

They said the 315 bore weapon was hidden behind a painting and it emerged that Singh had supplied the illegal firearm which was shown as found in the possession of the victim’s father after the MLA’s brother Atul Sengar and others assaulted him in April this year.

The girl’s father died after he was sent to jail allegedly under fake charges where his condition deteriorated.
