LUCKNOW: Dr Kafeel Khan, suspended paediatrician of BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, on Sunday alleged the role of a BJP MP in attack on his brother and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident. Kafeel’s brother Kashif Jameel, 34, an engineer by profession was shot at in Gorakhnath area on June 10. Kafeel, who has also received a letter from Congress president Rahul Gandhi condemning the attack, said: “The attack needs a CBI inquiry. The manner in which the police delayed the treatment of my brother (Kashif) in the name of medico-legal examination is enough to show they were either under pressure or following someone’s directions.”

LUCKNOW: Dr Kafeel Khan, the suspended paediatrician of BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, alleged the role of a BJP MP in the attack on his brother and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident.

Kafeel’s brother Kashif Jameel, 34, an engineer, was shot at in Gorakhnath area on June 10. Kafeel, who has also received a letter from Congress president Rahul Gandhi condemning the attack, said, “The attack needs a CBI inquiry. The manner in which police delayed the treatment of my brother in the name of medico-legal examination is enough to show that they were either under pressure or following someone’s directions.”

“My brother was attacked at the behest of Bansgaon BJP MP Kamlesh Paswan and promoter Satish Nangalia following a dispute over a 50,000 sq feet land owned by my maternal uncle,” Kafeel said.

“The role of Gorakhnath circle officer Pravin Singh and SP (City) Vinay Kumar Singh is suspicious. The Supreme Court also says a life should be saved first. I have lost faith in UP police and demand an inquiry either by the CBI or a committee headed by a high court judge,” Kafeel said, adding he would move court against the accused policemen.

Asked about the letter from Rahul Gandhi and his reply to it, Kafeel said his priority was his brother’s life. “I will reply to Rahul’s letter once my brother gets discharged from KGMU. I will then speak about it,” he said.

He added his family was under threat and the UP government should provide security to them. The state government has provided a constable to him. Kafeel is out on bail after serving eight months in jail in connection with the BRD Medical College tragedy in which over 30 children died allegedly due to oxygen shortage on August 10-11 last year.
