LUCKNOW: Construction of three new flyovers in Lucknow will take off in October this year to decongest areas facing frequent traffic jams, an NHAI official said.

Project in-charge, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), P Shivshankar said the flyovers would come up on Rae Bareli road, Kanpur road and Sitapur road at a cost of around Rs 1,000 crore.

“The flyover from Telibagh to Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) will ease traffic in the area and help the residents of Telibagh, Vrindavan Colony and South City. The second flyover from Sarojini Nagar to Banthara will help in streamlining traffic movement on this road,” he said.

Shivshankar said the flyover from engineering college to IIM trisection would come as a boon for the residents of Jankipuram Extension and Sitapur road as they faced regular traffic jams.

“The projects will be personally monitored by minister of surface and water transport Nitin Gadkari. He wants the projects to be completed within a year and has directed the officials to prepare tender and make efforts for utility shifting and land acquisition for the projects, if required,” he said. Meanwhile, work on three more flyovers is expected to start this year. These flyovers have been proposed to solve the traffic problems in areas from Hussainganj to Rajendra Nagar, Haiderganj trisection to Rajajipuram, and Bazar Khala to Charak Pathology in Chowk.

Former municipal commissioner Diwakar Tripathi, who is the representative of Lucknow MP and union home minister Rajnath Singh, said: “The Hussainganj route is used by over five lakh people daily.”

THE FLYOVERS WOULD COME UP ON RAE BARELI ROAD, KANPUR ROAD AND SITAPUR ROAD

AT A COST OF AROUND ₹ 1,000 CRORE

“A flyover from Haiderganj to Rajajipuram is also a must for the residents of Rajajipuram, Para, and Buddeshwaram. Flyover from Bazarkhala to Charak Pathology will surely ease traffic on Nakhas road,” Tripathi said.

The flyover from Hussainganj to Rajendra Nagar will be about 2.45 km long and will come up at a cost of Rs 126.81 crore.

The design of the flyover has been finalised.

The Haiderganj-Rajajipuram flyover will be around 1.1 km long and will be built at the cost of Rs 49 crore while the one in Bazar Khala will be about 2.54 km long to be built at a cost of Rs 128 crore.

All the three flyovers will be constructed by the UP State Bridge Corporation (UPSBC).
